How To Clean Foam
Foam pads, foam for protection, and foam for furniture provide unlimited usefulness in our everyday lives. Unfortunately, part of our everyday living includes dust, debris, pet dander, and dirt and can sometimes build up over time within the foam, especially foam that may be used outdoors. If you’d love to clean your foam, we’ve got everything you need to know on how to clean foam. To Clean an Entire Foam Cushion from a Chair, Seat, or Sofa.
Keep in mind depending on the size of the foam cushion, you may need a few hours to a few days to dry it out properly so make sure to plan!
- Using your vacuum, thoroughly vacuum your foam pad to remove dust and debris as much as possible.
- Spot clean the worst of any stains or dirt off your foam pad by using a very mild detergent or an upholstery detergent directly to the soiled area and gently scrub the stain or spot with a warm, wet cleaning cloth. Continue until the area is clean, and then use a secondary wet cloth to rinse and pat at the detergent until it is gone. If you note that the stain is not budging or that odors still prevail, move on to step three.
- Fill your kitchen sink, or your bathtub with warm water and add a capful of either gentle clothing detergent or upholstery cleaner, then add your foam pad, mixing until it lathers. Avoid soaps, as soaps often leave a residue that is harder to rinse out.
- Squeeze the lather into the foam with your hands by massaging, and once you see the foam pad clean, let the water out of the sink or the bathtub and rinse until the lather is gone and the water is clean. Next, refill the tub with cold water and add half a cup of vinegar, then rinse thoroughly again.
- Squeeze as much water from the foam as you can with your hands and allow it to air dry in a cool, clean place out of direct sunlight. Additionally, you can hang the foam pad from a shower rod or place it on a sweater rack to dry, and voila! Your foam is fresh and clean like new!

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to The Foam Factory via our blog.
Our foam sponges are a Polyurethane blend of materials. Typically you can gently spot clean them with dish soap and a little bit of water. The foam cannot get too wet, as it cannot properly dry itself fully.
